Chinese manufacturer Longi introduced its Hi-MO X12 solar module series at All Energy Australia 2026 in Melbourne on October 28 and 29. The back-contact modules are designed for residential and commercial and industrial rooftop applications, with an emphasis on power density, interconnection design and long-term reliability.

The series uses Longi’s hybrid passivated back contact (HPBC) 2.0 cell technology. Its integrated conductive backsheet replaces conventional soldered ribbons with conductive metal foil circuits embedded in the rear encapsulation structure. Longi says this allows the cells to connect directly to the backsheet and eliminates more than 15,000 potential solder-joint failure points in each module.

The architecture also increases the current-carrying cross-sectional area by 85%, according to the manufacturer, producing a power increase of 6 W to 8 W compared with conventional interconnection designs. Longi’s Full-Screen Technology combines shingled cell layouts with hidden busbars to reduce inactive areas and front-side shading. The company attributes an additional 8 W to 12 W to this design, bringing the claimed total gain to 14 W to 20 W.

The larger LR7-72WVD module, intended for commercial and industrial installations, is offered with power ratings from 660 W to 690 W and maximum efficiency above 25.54%. The smaller LR7-54WVD series includes four power classes from 495 W to 510 W, with module efficiencies ranging from 24.25% to 24.99% under standard test conditions.

The 108-cell, dual-glass LR7-54WVD measures 1,800 mm by 1,134 mm by 30 mm and weighs 23.5 kg. It has a black anodized aluminum frame, 2.0 mm front glass and 1.6 mm rear glass. Its temperature coefficient is -0.26% per degree Celsius, with an operating range of -40 C to 85 C and a maximum system voltage of 1,500 V.

The datasheet lists front and rear static load ratings of 5,400 Pa and 2,400 Pa, respectively, and resistance to 25 mm hailstones traveling at 23 m/s. Longi also says its ultra-thin stacking process reduces internal stress by 60%, while an integrated metal foil barrier cuts water vapor transmission by 90%.

The LR7-54WVD series includes a 25-year product warranty and a 30-year performance warranty. Longi specifies maximum first-year degradation of 1%, followed by annual degradation of 0.35%, resulting in approximately 88.9% of the initial power output after 30 years.

The product datasheet references IEC 61215 and IEC 61730 certification standards and includes certification marks from TÜV Rheinland and TÜV SÜD. Longi has not announced Australian pricing, initial shipment volumes or a commercial delivery schedule for the Hi-MO X12 series.

At the same event, Longi introduced its Hi-MO 9 Prime utility-scale module and showcased the LongiBank 3.0 and OneMatrix energy storage solutions, as well as the Longi Block modular photovoltaic system.
