Singapore-based renewable energy developer Equator Renewables Asia (ERA) has introduced SolarBox, a containerized photovoltaic system aimed at industrial sites, remote locations and temporary installations. The modular design allows the solar array to be transported and relocated as land-use requirements change.

The system integrates between 235 kW and 250 kW of photovoltaic capacity into a standard 40-foot high-cube shipping container. Once delivered, its preassembled array unfolds to approximately 120 meters through linked folding tables mounted on a roller-wheel chassis. ERA says a two-person crew can complete deployment in less than three hours, with the process taking about two hours under suitable conditions.

The reference configuration uses 368 n-type TOPCon bifacial modules rated at 640 W each, providing approximately 235.5 kW of DC capacity. The modules measure 2,382 mm by 1,134 mm by 30 mm and include a 25-year power warranty.

The standard electrical configuration includes two 100 kW inverters, providing 200 kW of AC output, while 115 kW inverter options are also listed. The system supports 400 V three-phase output at either 50 Hz or 60 Hz and includes DC and AC protection, surge protection, grounding, remote monitoring and energy metering.

SolarBox can operate in grid-connected or off-grid configurations. ERA also offers optional integration with battery energy storage systems and diesel generators. Its prewired architecture connects to a site’s electrical infrastructure through a single AC connection point, reducing the electrical work required during installation.

The company offers configurations ranging from a single 250 kWp unit to multi-container systems. Four units can be combined into a 1 MW installation. ERA also describes a hybrid microgrid configuration using three units, totaling 750 kW, alongside 964 kWh of battery storage. For larger projects, up to 10 MW can be assembled from 40 SolarBox units connected through AC combiners and medium-voltage transformers.

The container measures 12.19 meters long, 2.44 meters wide and 2.90 meters high, with a reported gross transport weight of approximately 24 metric tons.

ERA has signed a memorandum of understanding with Aster Power, the energy business of Singapore-based industrial group Aster, to assess the possible deployment of SolarBox at facilities on Singapore’s Bukom and Jurong islands. Announced during Singapore International Energy Week in October 2026, the agreement covers the technical and commercial feasibility of relocatable solar systems for industrial environments where land may only be available temporarily.

ERA CEO Frank Phuan said the system is intended for sites where a permanent solar installation may be difficult to justify because land could later be needed for other purposes. According to the company, SolarBox can be installed quickly, moved and redeployed at another location.

ERA has provided indicative capital-expenditure-based levelized cost of electricity estimates ranging from $0.0194/kWh in Australia to $0.0292/kWh in Singapore. The figures are based on equipment costs delivered FOB China in the third quarter of 2026 and exclude transportation, installation and other ancillary expenses. The company has not disclosed SolarBox’s commercial selling price or a schedule for potential deployment at Aster’s facilities.
