Carbon Brief journalists held a livestream after the UN’s COP17 biodiversity conference to discuss the negotiations and the summit’s key outcomes. Reporters Orla Dwyer and Aruna Chandrasekhar covered the talks from Yerevan, Armenia, while associate editors Giuliana Viglione and Daisy Dunne followed them from Washington, DC, and London.
Dwyer and Chandrasekhar opened the discussion by outlining major issues at the conference, including biodiversity finance and the first “global review” of progress towards reversing nature loss.
The journalists then answered audience questions in an “ask me anything” session. Topics included subsidies that harm nature, marine biodiversity and the status of the Cali fund, which is intended to raise private-sector finance.
Carbon Brief has also published a 10,000-word explainer detailing COP17’s key outcomes. A recording of the livestream is available on YouTube.
